HOUSEKEEPING 📨

Today’s housekeeping is nothing more than an update. We had a huge (!!) week at Athyna, securing the #1 advisor in the world to help us keep building. On our call, he saw how we are applying AI to talent acquisition and said “I want to invest … I think this is the future of our industry”.

Also, stand by for massive upgrades in our offering at Open Source CEO in the next weeks. I have a post I’m readying to explain our 2024 plans, so I’m pretty pumped on that too. Business is hard. It’s great to feel some real momentum.

RESOURCE OF THE WEEK 🧰

If you have followed this newsletter for any length of time, you will see one common thread (no pun intended) I speak about often - reading.

To read is to learn, and to learn is to excel. And to excel, for any consistent length of time, is to eventually win. The word itself comes from the Latin word excellentia, from the verb excellere or ‘surpass’.

In sum, read consistently and you will surpass your competition.

I do not endorse Trump but I do endorse these threads.

Today’s resource ranks lower on the totem pole of reading options (just trying to be honest). I would advise our 100 Greatest Business Books, Ultimate Investor Letters and Essential Startup Reading tools are more useful but there is still a lot can be learnt from the threadboiiz and girlszz of the world.

Think of these as snackable bite sized pieces of learning. Less lift than a chapter, not as dense and a shareholder letter.

Take this thread below by David Perell on communication as a leader. Do you think there is a reason why Jeff Bezos drums down on the mantra of it being ‘always day 1’ by accident in his shareholder letters? Of course not.

Another bite-sized nugget here from Greg Isenberg. Although he may seem like nothing but a dirty thread pirate, he is not. Greg is a 3x-exited founder who now advises to Reddit and TikTok. His thoughts are worth listening to.

And we have people like Anne Lee Skates, partner at a16z. I think you are starting to catch my drift. There is some real golden flakes of pixie dust in here.

Looking for how to optimise you current hiring process. Andrew Wilkinson, also know as the ‘Warren Buffet of the Internet’ has you covered.

How about the story of why Bezos, left his high paying career at PE firm D. E. Shaw to take on the internet? Steph Smith, also now at a16z, breaks it down for you.

The best thing about our World’s Best Threads Database is it’s categorised for topic for. Whatever you are looking for, it’s in there.

Here is everyones favourite B2B creator, Lenny Rachitsky with a thread on all the different ways you can generate moula, cheedar … cash, inside of your business.

Even the great Sam Altman was doing it for the re-tweets at some point in the not-too-distant-past.

Hopefully this tool can act as the in between, for when you need to switch off for a moment mid Pomodoro, to scroll the interwebs. There is certainly some very tasty brain food in there.

And that's it! You can find the database here and if you liked this you will love our other tools & resources too. We hope you enjoy them!

TWEET OF THE WEEK 🐣

Speaking of Sama, here is a throwback to the tweet summary from our first ever deep dive. Was a nice one.

BRAIN FOOD 🧠

Want the most comprehensive competitive analysis chops in your industry? If yes, then check out this Competitor Research and Strategy document by the great man, Patrick ‘Patticus’ Campbell of ProfitWell fame.

Reader beware: it’s insanely long. Luckily - it’s also insanely good.

TOOLS & RESOURCES 🔥

Every now and then I stumble upon something suuuuper cool. Last week that was CommandBar and AI-Powered User Assistance. My new buddy, James and the team have created a new acronym (love an acronym).

UAP comin’ at ya.

UAP = User-Assistance-Platform. Why do I think it's cool? You can - build a Copilot AI assistant, create product tours, in-app surveys, create killer onboarding checklists and way more. a16z backed. Give them a look.

ASK ME ANYTHING 🗣

I want to be a trusted resource for you. If you think anything I know in relation to brand, culture, global teams, sales and growth would help you unblock a problem in your weeks shoot me a line.

Ask in the comments or reply to this email and I will do my best to answer it in a future edition. 🙌🏼

TOOLS WE USE 🛠️

Every week we highlight tools we actually use inside of our business and give them an honest review. Today we are highlighting beehiiv. Plainly and simply the best newsletter platform on the market, bar none.

Substack is good for artists, Convert Kit is decent for the business of newsletters but beehiiv is #1.

Apollo: We use Apollo to automate a large part of our 1.2M weekly outbound emails.
PandaDoc: We use PandaDoc to make very boring contracts look beautiful.
Taplio: We use Taplio to grow and manage my online presence.

Get buzzin’.

See the full set of tools we use inside of Athyna & Open Source CEO here.
